Elaine Ferdinandi Original Watercolours:
Art has always been a big part of my life, but I only began to work in watercolours as I approached retirement in 2000. Painting in watercolours has become my passion! I love the flow and happy surprises with this medium.
I enjoy experimenting from my own references but also like the challenge of commissions. Originally, I worked on watercolour paper, then matted and framed my paintings. The traditional method was cumbersome and costly for shows and displays. The natural solution was to paint on pretreated canvas. Quite a different effect but still ready to hang! The painting wraps around the edges and is less weight to tote but generally the painting has a looser feel. I was still drawn to the detail possible with the use of paper so tried a third presentation. This involves varnishing the completed painting and mounting it on a varnished birch painting panel. The edges are different depths and have a natural wood look. Now I choose the finishing that strikes me in the moment and there is a personal choice for art patrons.
